Blue Underground presents directors Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi's infamous 1971 Italian mondo-docudrama Goodbye Uncle Tom in limited edition 4K UHD/Blu-ray releases arriving April 23.
The American south slave trade themed shocker was so graphic that the film was heavily cut in the U.S. prior to its release - with Roger Ebert calling this cut version, “… the most disgusting, contemptuous insult to decency ever to masquerade as a documentary.” Blue Underground includes both the original uncut Italian version and the cut version fully restored in 4K from the original camera negatives.
The film considered too shocking for the world! Written, edited, produced and directed by Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi of MONDO CANE fame, this epic recreation of the American slave trade atrocities was both condemned as depraved exploitation and acclaimed as an unprecedented cry of Black anguish and rage. The Detroit Chronicle hailed it as "a graphic, moving, nerve-paralyzing film." Legendary film critic Pauline Kael called it "the most specific and rabid incitement of the race war." It became one of the most reviled and misunderstood films of its time. Five decades cannot diminish GOODBYE UNCLE TOM's impact or quiet its controversy as it has become even more relevant TODAY!
In 1971, distributors forced the filmmakers to completely re-cut the film and radically re-write its extreme narration, removing more than 13 minute of race-war politics and inserting alternate scenes - creating what would become an entirely different film - before it could be released. Now more than 50 years later, both versions of GOODBYE UNCLE TOM can finally be seen in brand-new restorations, scanned in 4K 16-bit from their original negatives, with Dolby Vision HDR (on the 4K Blu-ray) & newly restored DTS-HD Master Audio, and packed with over 5 hours of Extras!

The Game Of Clones: Bruceploitation Collection, Vol.1 (Limited Edition Website Exclusive)
“Many films tried to capitalize on the popularity of Bruce Lee. Some amped up the craziness as far as it would go. Others played it straight, delivering seriously good films. At its best, Bruceploitation was some of the most uninhibited and exciting martial arts cinema of the age.”
Den Of Geek
Hours after Bruce Lee’s death, Bruceploitation was born. And for the next 10 years, talented martial artists were enlisted to mimic iconic aspects of Lee’s life, style and mannerisms. Fueled by equal parts deception and demand, these films instead created one of the most wildly entertaining sub-genres in movie history. THE GAME OF CLONES: BRUCEPLOITATION COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 now presents 14 of the very best – and frequently very bizarre – films starring Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Dragon Lee, Bruce Liang and more, all restored for the first time ever from original film elements.
Each of these 14 Bruceploitation classics – THE CLONES OF BRUCE LEE (1980), ENTER THREE DRAGONS (1978), ENTER THE GAME OF DEATH (1978), GOOD BYE, BRUCE LEE: HIS LAST GAME OF DEATH (1975), THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977), BRUCE AND THE IRON FINGER (1977), CHALLENGE OF THE TIGER (1980), CAMEROON CONNECTION (1984), SUPER DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY (1974), THE DRAGON LIVES (1976), THE DRAGON, THE HERO (1980), RAGE OF THE DRAGON (1980), THE BLACK DRAGON VS. THE YELLOW TIGER (1974), and the never-before available THE BIG BOSS PART II (1976) – also feature exclusive bonus programming that includes all-new interviews, audio commentaries and revealing featurettes, as well as a 100-page Bruceploitation book filled with essays, posters, rare photos and more.

Enter the Clones of Bruce
In the “fascinating gem of a documentary” (Culture Mix) ENTER THE CLONES OF BRUCE, director David Gregory tracks down the surviving Bruces – along with martial arts legends, producers, directors, distributors, historians and more – to reveal the entire shocking and bittersweet saga behind a celluloid phenomenon that still refuses to die. Gregory – whose award-winning documentaries include LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY’S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU and BLOOD & FLESH: THE REEL LIFE & GHASTLY DEATH OF AL ADAMSON – now examines this fascinating phenomenon via interviews with Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Bruce Liang and Dragon Lee; martial arts legends like Angela Mao, David Chiang, Phillip Ko and Sammo Hung; and the producers, directors, distributors and experts – along with copious clips from the films themselves – that for the first time reveal the history, controversy and legacy behind one of the most bizarre genres in movie history. The documentary will also be available on all leading digital outlets on April 30, and as a standalone Blu-ray on May 21.

Get ready to sweep your collection's leg! Sony continues to dive deep into their archives for a new 40th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of John G. Alvidson's classic The Karate Kid. If you didn't pick up the trilogy collection, this edition kicks in the door with weathered VHS-style packaging with some exciting new bonus features.
While the previous trilogy set is barely two years old, Sony is already revisiting the first The Karate Kid on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. More than a simple repressing with weathered VHS-style packaging, this disc offers some new bonus features in the form of a new audio commentary track with the creators of Cobra Kai and if that wasn't enough, the disc also comes with 30-minutes of never-before-seen deleted scene dailies. Maybe not enough for some to go for a double dip, but for fans that only wanted the classic first film, they can now have it in the collection.

Warner Brothers is preparing Clint Eastwood's Oscar-nominated 'American Sniper' starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release on May 14. There will also be a 4K SteelBook edition arriving on the same day.
The 2014 film based on Chris Kyle's best-selling autobiography received six Academy Award nominations including Best Actor and Best Picture. It will be presented for the first time in 4K with HDR and comes with a Digital download.
From director Clint Eastwood comes “American Sniper,” starring Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, whose skills as a sniper made him a hero on the battlefield. But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield, and as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to “leave no one behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind

If keeping up with your collection wasn't already tough enough, some amazing independent labels dropped some great opportunities on Kickstarter! 3-D Film Archive, Deaf Crocodile, and Rifftrax have some exciting campaigns running right now!
Sometimes a project needs a little extra cash or a guaranteed number of sales to get going. Ever since crowdfunding took off, it's been a fantastic revenue stream for independent levels and entertainers to fund their next projects. Restorations of films and media of all kinds is rarely cheap. It's often a laborious process and if a title is a little obscure or not a big noteworthy release, the prospect of funding a project like that out-of-pocket can be dodgy financially. In recent years Kickstarter and other crowdfunding sources have become a haven for companies to not only fund their restoration efforts but also guarantee a number of unit sales. Right now on Kickstarter, there are a bunch of great campaigns rolling that physical media fans won't want to miss out on.
Ilya Muromets,Sampo, The Tale of Tsar Saltan, and the upcomingRuslan and Ludmila. These discs are the same ones available through Vinegar Syndrome's Partner Label selections, but now with a new box set and new slipcovers. But what if you already have the previousIlya Muromets,Sampo, andThe Tale of Tsar Saltandiscs? Don't worry, the great people at Deaf Crocodile has your back. You can pick up the box on its own for $20 or snag the box with a copy ofRuslan andLudmilawith the Vinegar Syndrome slipcover for $50! So you've got some nice cash-affordable options if you don't want to break the bank re-purchasing discs you already have. But act fast - as of this writing there are only four days left in the campaign!
Next, the masters of stereoscopic Blu-ray releases, 3-D Film Archive has designs to unleash Arch Obler's final filmDomo Arigatowith a new fully restored 3-D Blu-ray release. No stranger to the crowdfunding process, 3-D Film Archive had delivered incredible 3-D Blu-ray releases time and again. Their previous crowdfunding effortRobot Monsterwas a phenomenal success and this shouldn't be any less impressive. The entry point for this release is nice and low; $30 guarantees your copy. Stretch goals have already flown by so you're going to get a fully-loaded disc with plenty of great bonus features. Now if you don't have a 3-D ready TV or projector, do not worry, this disc will also include an Anaglyph 3-D (Red/Cyan) version with a pair of glasses so you can experience the film on any home theater setup. As of this writing, you haveninedaysleft in the campaign. So a little time yet to jump on the preorder option, but don't wait too long!
For years now, MST3K alums Mike, Kevin, and Bill have been delivering hilarious new commentaries for our favorite A-list blockbusters and Z-list forgotten gems. A staple of Rifftrax has been their annual live-show events streamed to theaters. Past heavy hitters includedPlan 9 From Outer Space,Return of Swamp Thing,The Roomandthe biggest title (so far) has beenStarship Troopers. MKB and the Rifftrax team are digging in for their biggest show yet -Point Break! That's right, the classic 90s Swayzee/Reeves action thriller will be riffed live in theaters across the country. Backers can choose their entry point to get a bunch of swag items and digital goodies, but best of all - there will be a physical media release for this show! UnlikeStarship TroopersandAnacondawhich only got a studio-recorded commentary track, we'll be able to enjoy the full show on DVD or Blu-ray! The campaign was quickly funded and stretch goals were destroyed opening up a Blu-ray release option! But to get that physical media option, you do have to punch in at the $100 tier level, but if you just want a digital release - you can opt-in at $40 to secure your spot. As of this writing, the show is already fully funded with fourteen days left in the campaign.
Of course when and where possible as these releases come to our home collections we aim to offer a thorough review - until then, happy collecting!

And just like that, Sony keeps the deep catalog classics coming. On top of their massive range of Columbia Pictures 100th Anniversary releases, Sony is making sure fans keep feeling that collecting pinch with another heavy from their archive. La Femme Nikita (or just "Nikita" depending on where you live in the world) was a surprise smash hit for Luc Besson leaping from the Parisian theater houses to become an international sensation spawning the Americanized remakeNo Returnand the Hong Kong versionBlack Cat. Nearly 35 years after its theatrical run, we'll soon be able to enjoy this great action thriller in full Dolby Vision glory!

From director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) comes the must-see thriller about a vicious street punk turned sexy, sophisticated and lethally dangerous assassin. Rescued from death row by a top-secret agency, Nikita (Anne Parillaud) is slowly transformed from a cop-killing junkie into a cold-blooded bombshell with a license to kill. Whether it's 4K or blu-ray, this week is a whopper. All I can say is do your best to not break the bank. The image above was created on Bing's AI image creator. My first attempt.
Welcome to Volume 4 Episode 43 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of March 24th - March 30th, as well as a look at announcements from last week.
It's another boutique label week in the 4K category, and that is A-OK. The 4K category is almost reasonable to manage this week.
Import Monday begins with A Blade in the Dark from 88 Films. (Vinegar Syndrome did this release one year ago.)
Also from 88 Films, a pair of releases listed as part of their "Tigon Collection", The Blood on Satan's Claw. The other title being Witchfinder General. I would not be surprised if these titles to be delayed, 88 Films releases frequently get pushed back at least once.
Formerly done by Cauldron Films in the US, Arrow Video's take on City of the Living Dead. Currently only available via Arrow's direct site. If we get an Amazon or Zavvi link, we will provide it for you.
Moving on to Domestic Tuesday, let's begin with Kino Lorber and comedy/sports film North Dallas Forty, starring Nick Nolte. Then let's go to a comedy/musical with Clint Eastwood titled Paint Your Wagon. I know you might be confused right about now with Eastwood not being in a Western back then, but it did happen!
The Criterion Collection this week has the comedy To Die For with Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix and Matt Dillon.
Spine number 43 in the 'Paramount Presents' line comes out this week, Primal Fear with Richard Gere.
Severin has your back if you're not looking to import, this week Burial Ground becomes available. Also, if you did not opt for the limited edition, a standard edition of The Spider Labyrinth is also available.
We don't see Blue Underground very often, but when we do, their releases are usually top-notch. What have they got for us this week? Try Night of the Blood Monster (The Bloody Judge) with Christopher Lee.
A standard release this week of Phase IV is available on Amazon from Vinegar Syndrome. Check out our review to decide is this one is a smash or a dud. Visit Vinegar Syndrome if you want the fancier edition.
Tinto Brass in 4K? Tinto Brass in 4K! Cult Epics this week has All Ladies Do It.
A pair of Indicator Series horror releases that were delayed a month or so, Patrick and Snapshot truly appear to be on track for a Tuesday release.
For those waiting for a standard release of The Warriors from Arrow video, the wait is over.
Import Friday (well, not really import) offers up Dead End Drive-In via Umbrella Entertainment and Amazon US.
Next week we can collect our thoughts and recharge, just a few catalog titles to look at, some of them are Walmart Exclusives.
It has been a long time since we have had a big week like this. If I told you there were close to a hundred titles, I would not be that far off. Selectively pick or splurge, your choice!
Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases include North Dallas Forty and Paint Your Wagon from Kino Lorber, To Die For from Criterion, The Spider Labyrinth from Severin, Night of the Blood Monster (The Bloody Judge) from Blue Underground, All Ladies Do It from Cult Epics, The Warriors (Standard Edition) from Arrow Video, and, Patrick and Snapshot from the Powerhouse Indicator Series.
New comedy from Sony with The Book of Clarence.
Criterion also has something in the blu-ray category this week, foreign drama titled Saint Omer.
TV on disc this week includes Midsomer Murders: Series 24, Monk: Season Five and Wednesday: The Complete First Season. The latter title is a big hit and available in 4K with Dolby Vision, just a bit frustrating we get neither on disc at home. Maybe later, or maybe an import.
Warner Archive Collection this week has 3 Godfathers, The Boob and Why Be Good?, The Little Drummer Girl, Money Talks, Stand and Deliver and They Drive by Night.
Anime highlights include Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - Set 17, Berserk - The Complete 1997 TV Series, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War: Part 1, also available as a Limited Edition, 'Fist of the North Star: The Legend of the True Savior - Legend of Kenshiro Movie' and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
From Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures, Good Burger 2 arrives this week.
Several more Indicator releases this week, but in the blu-ray category, look for The Bat Woman, The Panther Women and Santo vs. the Riders of Terror.
From LionsGate this week, a biography/sports drama titled The Iron Claw.
Special Mention of two titles that Shout Factory has released as shop exclusives, The Crow: Salvation and Venomous.
Honorable Mention: Volume 18 is out this week, talking about Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XVIII. If you've been collecting them, here is another.
There are three releases from Via Vision and Umbrella Entertainment available via Amazon US on Friday.
Al Pacino: Triple Film Collection, Bully and The Chaser.
I recently watched the 70s TV show CHiPs on Prime video and I got to tall ya, it looks absolutely fantastic. The 16:9 reframing looks great too. If they can give us HD upgrades on classic TV shows via streaming, the work is half done, sell us the show on disc! Even if Mill Creek does it, offering an upped bitrate from their norm, I would be all over it.
Although not officially announced yet, I would expect to see the UK 4K release of Se7en to have an official street date of April 22nd. Amazon US has both the What's in the Box? and Ultimate Collector's releases listed as May 3rd. A US release in the typical movie-only setup (Warner usually gives the UK deluxe sets while giving the US barebones releases) would also be expected around that time.
Warner Bros appears on track to be releasing The Terminator to 4K in the near future.
Paramount Pictures has Rango due for a 4K SteelBook on June 4th. They also rumored to be working on Purple Rain and Team America for 4K release.

Two cult classic fantasy horror favorites - 'The Lair of the White Worm' & 'The Gate' - will be getting new Walmart-exclusive Blu-ray SteelBook releases on May 14.
The releases both appear to have all of the previously released as part of Lionsgate's growing Vestron Video series. As we saw with Shivers, Little Monsters, and Kickboxer it looks like these are just going to be repackaged discs with new art and SteelBooks. Which is great if you never bought them previously! It's nice to see Walmart picking up the pace with more store-exclusive packaging ever since Best Buy exited the market. The trick will be if these actually make it to store shelves, we've seen a lot of pictures of bare racks on the interwebs - so hopefully these will be coming to a store near you!
Hugh Grant, Amanda Donohoe, and Catherine Oxenberg star in this mix of heart-stopping horror and campy humor. James D’Ampton (Grant) returns to his country castle in England. Legend has it that James’s distant ancestor once slayeed the local dragon — a monstrous white worm with a fondness for the sweet flesh of virgins. The young lord dismisses the legend as folklore, until archaeology student Angus Flint explores James’s property and unearths a massive reptilian skull and a pagan snake god’s ancient site of worship. When James’s virtuous girlfriend, Eve Trent (Oxenberg), suddenly disappears, James and Angus set out to investigate the foreboding cavern said to be the worm’s lair, where a centuries-old mystery begins to uncoil.

Yeah, as we somehow survived the barrage of titles last week, we get that one-two punch that carries into this week. You really didn't need to make that mortgage payment anyway, did you?
Welcome to Volume 4 Episode 42 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of March 17th - March 23rd, as well as a look at announcements from last week.
This week is a good news bad news week in the 4K category. The good news, there are no new releases pining for your attention. The bad news, there are a lot of great catalog/boutique labels that are pulling at your purse strings that much harder. Resistance is futile.
Import Monday includes several titles. First from Second Sight, a pair of "fat-pack" limited edition releases, Green Room and Possessor. You can also get those as standard editions as well if you are not down with the swag, Green Room and Possessor. I am a sucker for these Second Sight fat-packs. I don't mind giving Diabolik DVD my business, but the going price of $50 a piece price tag is something to balk at. That actually is cheaper than buying directly from Amazon UK and my orders do not get regularly canceled.
From 88 Films, their take on The Amityville Horror (1979).
On to Domestic Tuesday. Beginning with Kino Lorber, the drama/thriller Changing Lanes is up first, and it stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck.
And next on the 'inevitable' release docket, The Manchurian Candidate (2004). When we saw the original 1962 version come out, it was merely a matter of time. Which version do you prefer? This time though it wasn't the original studio releasing one and Kino Lorber the other.
Scream Factory is the next label this week and they have a trio of skus coming Tuesday. The first two are considered remakes, we get Child's Play (2019) and Carrie (2013).
Delayed from 3 months ago, but finally seeing light of day, The Ring Collection materializes this week. Not too long after I imported the trilogy from Germany on blu-ray, this was announced. The story of my life. Hopefully The Grudge films is next?
Under the same house, but with the "Select" Label, Shout releases K-19: The Widowmaker to 4K disc.
Arrow Video has the original Japanese release of the film titled Dark Water. Also available as an Arrow Store Exclusive Cover Edition. Does this mean that Scream Factory will do the English language remake? We went from Ringu to The Ring, so maaaayybe.
Also from Arrow Video, a standard edition to Witness. This one sold out pretty fast as a limited edition, so here is a swagless release.
Import Wednesday comes from the land down under via Umbrella Entertainment with Dead End Drive-In: Collector's Edition. A standard edition will be available at Amazon US in a couple of weeks.
Donning a 4K slip SteelBook Edition, Barb Wire gets a release from Turbine Entertainment. Follow our link to the article to decide which one is best for you.
Next week the spigot is still blasting, Paramount Presents, Indicator, Criterion and more!
There are no blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases, that wallet in your pocket thanks you.
TV on disc include The Act: The Complete Limited Series, Doctor Who: The Daleks in Color and Suits: The Complete Series.
From Janus Contemporarires this week, the documentary Lynch/Oz debuts to blu-ray disc.
From Criterion Collection, foreign drama The Runner.
Under the Sony Pictures Classics label comes Shadow Magic, a drama/romance from 2000.
Next week's domestic blu-ray release calendar is APOCALYPTIC! I don't think you could possibly prepare yourself unless you win the lottery.
There are some Umbrella Entertainment imports available Wednesday. We will post domestic links when they become available as standard releases.
Criterion Collection has announced their June slate of titles. For 4K, the titles are Blue Velvet, Bound and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. For blu-ray, titles are Bound, Querelle, The Underground Railroad and Victims of Sin. When I imported Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas via Arrow Video, I knew it was inevitable that Criterion would do it, but I am not disappointed with my Arrow release one bit.

Which titles are you buying this week? Which ones are on your wishlist, be it to buy as an impulse buy or to wait for the right price?
The Criterion Collection's June release slate includes 4K UHD Blu-ray upgrades of David Lynch's Blue Velvet and Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Lana and Lilly Wachowski's Bound on both Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray; and Blu-ray editions of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Querelle, Emilio Fernández's Victims of Sin, and the limited-series The Underground Railroad from Barry Jenkins.
It's that time of the month again - Criterion announcements! We have an interesting batch this time with two 4K upgrades, one title hitting both formats, and a few more Blu-rays including a limited series - The Underground Railroad. Which ones will you be adding to your library?
On June 4, Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas will receive a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray + Blu-ray upgrade.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
It is 1971, and journalist Raoul Duke barrels toward Las Vegas—accompanied by a trunkful of contraband and his slightly unhinged Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo—to cover a motorcycle race. What should be a cut-and-dried journalistic assignment quickly descends into a feverish psychedelic odyssey. Director Terry Gilliam and an all-star cast, headlined by Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro, show no mercy in bringing Hunter S. Thompson’s excoriating dissection of the American way of life to the screen, creating a film both hilarious and savage
DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
Arriving on June 11 comes Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Querelle to Blu-ray.
Querelle - The Criterion Collection
Conjured from the unholy meeting of two iconoclastic queer artists, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s final film audaciously raises Jean Genet’s controversial novel to the level of myth. In an expressionistic soundstage vision of a French seaport town—bathed in fiery reds and complete with phallic spires—a strapping sailor and unrepentant criminal (Brad Davis) comes ashore to arouse passion, rivalry, and violence among the libidinal denizens drawn into his orbit. Enacted with dreamlike stylization by a cast of international stars, including Jeanne Moreau and Franco Nero, Querelle finds Fassbinder pushing his taboo-shattering depiction of gay desire to delirious extremes.
BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
Next on June 18, Emilio Fernández's Victims of Sin will arrive in stores on Blu-ray.
Victims of Sin - The Criterion Collection
A treasure of Mexico’s cinematic golden age, this deliriously plotted blend of gritty crime film, heart-tugging maternal melodrama, and mambo musical is a dazzling showcase for iconic star Ninón Sevilla. She brings fierce charisma and fiery strength to her role as a rumbera—a female nightclub dancer—who gives up everything to raise an abandoned boy, whom she must protect from his ruthless gangster father. Directed at a dizzying pace by filmmaking titan Emilio Fernández, and shot in stylish chiaroscuro by renowned cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa amid smoky dance halls and atmospherically seedy underworld haunts, Victims of Sin is a ferociously entertaining female-powered noir pulsing with the intoxicating rhythms of some of Latin America’s most legendary musical stars.
BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
Lana and Lilly Wachowski's Bound will arrive on both 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray on June 18.
Bound - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Before they blew the world’s mind with The Matrix, Lana and Lilly Wachowski delivered a jolt of pure pulp pleasure with their hyperstylish debut, which puts a deliciously sapphic spin on a crackerjack caper premise. When butch plumber Corky (Gina Gershon) catches the eye of alluring femme (fatale) Violet (Jennifer Tilly), little does she know she’s about to be drawn into both a torrid affair and a high-stakes heist that will pit the pair against the mob. With crackling dialogue, luscious neonoir cinematography, and live-wire performances by Gershon, Tilly, and Joe Pantoliano, Bound is a genre-reimagining joyride that keeps both the tension and the erotic heat rising through each crazily careening twist.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
David Lynch's Blue Velvet will be getting its long-awaited 4K UHD Blu-ray upgrade on June 25.
Blue Velvet - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Home from college, Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) makes an unsettling discovery: a severed human ear, lying in a field. In the mystery that follows, by turns terrifying and darkly funny, writer-director David Lynch burrows deep beneath the picturesque surfaces of small-town life. Driven to investigate, Jeffrey finds himself drawing closer to his fellow amateur sleuth, Sandy Williams (Laura Dern), as well as their person of interest, lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini)—and facing the fury of Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), a psychopath who will stop at nothing to keep Dorothy in his grasp. With intense performances and hauntingly powerful scenes and images, Blue Velvet is an unforgettable vision of innocence lost, and one of the most influential American films of the late twentieth century.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
And finally, June 25 will also bring Barry Jenkins' The Underground Railroad to Blu-ray.
The Underground Railroad - The Criterion Collection
A monumental reimagining of American history, Barry Jenkins’s adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize–winning 2016 novel is a harrowing and rhapsodic journey through a still-echoing past. Weaving together historical fiction with moments of magical realism, The Underground Railroad is a full sensory immersion into the world of Cora (Thuso Mbedu), who, fleeing slavery, embarks on a treacherous quest for freedom—and is menaced by violence, supported by a clandestine community fighting for liberation, and haunted by the people she loses along the way. With images of searing power and stirring poetry, Jenkins delivers an epic saga of survival and resilience that pushes the limited-series format to new heights of cinematic transcendence.

Warner Brothers' star-studded heist trilogy starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and many more will arrive on a 4K Ultra HD on April 30.
Steven Soderbergh's trio of capers will be available as a trilogy set or in individual SteelBooks.
Starting as a remake of the Rat Pack classic, Clooney and company turned a simple heist film into a hit franchise spanning three films. Or four films if you count the spin-off that didn't really go anywhere Ocean's Eight. As a new prequel (or reboot, or requel, we're not really sure) is set to go before cameras soon, Warner Bros. is giving Soderbergh's trilogy the 4K HDR treatment. On top of a full trilogy set, you can score individual SteelBooks.
Ocean's Eleven - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray [SteelBook]
Ocean’s 11 (2001) - Danny Ocean (George Clooney) likes taking chances. All he asks is that his handpicked squad of ten grifters and cons play the game like they have nothing to lose. If all goes right, the payoff will be a fat $150 million. Ocean’s 11, in alphabetical order, stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Elliott Gould, Bernie Mac and Carl Reiner also star.
Ocean's Twelve - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray [SteelBook]
Ocean’s 12 (2004) - They’re back. And then some. Twelve is the new eleven when Danny Ocean and pals return in a sequel to the cool caper that saw them pull off a $150 million heist. But $150 million doesn’t go as far as it used to. It’s time to pull off another stunner of a plan. Exciting locations include Amsterdam, Paris and Rome. Ocean’s 12 stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac and Julia Roberts.
Ocean's Thirteen - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray [SteelBook]
Ocean’s 13 (2007) - Danny Ocean rounds up the boys for the most dazzling heist yet, after casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double-crosses one of the eleven, Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould). George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and more reteam with director Steven Soderbergh for a split-second caper that stacks the deck with wit, style and cool. Ocean’s 13 stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Ellen Barkin and Al Pacino. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin with Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould.

Between this week and next, you might need to draw from your equity line of credit if you truly buy everything you want. Those three James Cameron titles finally (maybe?) hit the streets, three new title releases, and more. And that's just the 4K category. If you are budgeted to buy just 4 titles this week, you will probably buy the 3 Cameron releases, so which one is your 4th title?
Welcome to Volume 4 Episode 41 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of March 10th - March 16th, as well as a look at announcements from last week.
In general, we normally post the new releases first. But this week is not a normal release week. Let us begin with the three James Cameron titles we have waited decades for to hit blu-ray, but now (maybe) get them in 4K and blu-ray in the same package. BONUS! My reluctance to say they are finally here is that I do not have them in my hands, nor have I seen them in retailer back rooms yet either. Some merchants have even pushed the street date to next week, which tells me the ETA in their stock rooms will be Monday afternoon, or Tuesday if we're lucky.
The Disney company has overused the term Ultimate Collector's Edition, but this week all three Cameron titles don that label, for a good reason. Dolby Vision, BD100 discs, lots of extras, this batch has it all.
First in the trio of releases, the title that got a remaster a couple of years ago and was on Prime video among other sites and had a lot of us speculating a future release, The Abyss finally arrives. Finally my video wall will have this one, Deepstar Six and Leviathan all over again! At press time Amazon's stats say they sold over 10K+ copies in the last month.
Next in our trio of James Cameron releases, Aliens. In addition to it being a serious action thriller, the scene that sticks out the most to me in a comical sense was Bill Paxton's character saying "Game Over Man!" Amazon's stats show 7K+ were ordered last month.
Someone pinch me, the third title is here (maybe) and hopefully is a major upgrade to that blu-ray we had to import from Spain, referring to True Lies. Don't be 'stuck' in the van unless it has a big screen and a killer sound system, grab your copy NOW, if you can find it. Just like Aliens, 7K+ were ordered last month alone.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming, let's see what New Releases we are getting this week.
First from Warner Bros, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Ranked 35% on Rotten Tomatoes, but with an 81 audience score, not sure what to really think about this one. You can also/alternately snag a Walmart Exclusive Steelbook.
Also from Warner Bros, The Color Purple (2023) get a 4K disc release, and this one ranks 82% on the Tomatometer, with an audience score of 95. What does the remake do that the original does not? The simplest answer is it adds elements from the stage musical. Hopefully by press time we will have a review ready.
And the third (and final) new release 4K this week is Disney's Wish - Walmart Exclusive SteelBook. When it was originally announced we expected a standard 4K from the Disney Movie Club. In light of recent news of the club closing its doors, that is not happening.
On to catalog titles, first with Dreamworks Animation, Kung Fu Panda. With Kung Fu Panda 4 hitting theaters, releasing the first 3 only make sense. Now if they would release the TV Series to blu-ray! (hint hint)
The Shout Select label this week is offering Quigley Down Under. Tom Selleck NOT driving a Ferrari? Yeah, he did do that.
From Paramount, because they were so successfuly, reprints of SteelBooks of Dragonslayer, Event Horizon and The Running Man are available this week.
Now then, that wasn't too damaging, was it? If there were multiple box sets, one would say YES. Next week is a bunch of boutique label releases, we finally get The Ring Collection, more Shout Factory, Kino Lorber and Arrow Video.
Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases include Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple (2023) from Warner Bros, and Wish from Disney. You can also get the Aquaman 2-Film Collection from Warner Bros.
The rest of the blu-ray category looks pretty crowded, so best of luck resisting temptation on a spending spree.
New release from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures, Poor Things. Available in 4K via streaming, getting just a blu-ray is slightly infuriating and more common now that Disney owns the Fox label. Could be worse I suppose, DVD only!
New rom-com from Sony Pictures with Anyone But You. I'd swear this came out a couple of weeks ago, but apparently not.
From Universal Pictures, The Prince of Egypt: The Musical.
Get your fill of action and suspense with I.S.S. from Decal Bleecker. While we are on sub-labels and action films, Freelance comes out from Relativity Media. And the Michael Mann biography/drama Ferrari comes via Neon.
Ever heard the names John Wayne, Lauren Bacall or Ron Howard? How 'bout Don Siegel ? This week from Arrow Video we get all four with The Shootist (Limited Edition).
Warner Archive Collection has a couple of titles for us this week, Colt .45: The Complete Series and Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volume 3.
Boutique label Criterion Collection has a pair of blu-ray releases this week. First, 1941's fantasy romance All That Money Can Buy (a.k.a. The Devil and Daniel Webster). Then, shifting gears to a documentary, Laura Poitras’s All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.
Anime highlights include Akiba Maid War: Complete Collection, The Legendary Hero Is Dead! - The Complete Season, One Piece: Season Thirteen - Voyage Six and Suzume: Movie, which is also available as a Limited Edition and as a Walmart Exclusive SteelBook.
TV on disc other than Warner Archive Collection also includes All Creatures Great and Small - Season 4, Rick and Morty: Season 7, also available in a SteelBook Edition, Sonic Prime: Season One and Stephen King's The Shining (1997).
Shout Factory has announced much of their May releases. In no particular order, look for blu-rays of The Island of Dr. Moreau Collector's Edition (1996), Dracula 2000 and Orphan, and for 4K, look for The Addams Family 1&2, Gretel & Hansel and Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which the latter will also have a SteelBook release.
Disney is releasing more Disney+ content to blu-ray and 4K disc. Andor, Moon Knight, Obi-Wan and Falcon and the Winter Soldier are coming April 30th.
Jason Statham's The Beekeper is coming to blu-ray and 4K disc on April 23rd.

This month, we trekked out to Joe's Pub in the historic East Village to see Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alex Ferreira take the stage and chatted with him about his latest project, fatherhood, and how he's balancing the two.
Alex Ferreira's dressing room at Joe's Pub is small and sparse, without much in the way of personal belongings or even instruments. There's a guitar case to one side, a knapsack nearby on a leather chair, and the singer himself sitting sideways in front of the lighted vanity - his trademark curls falling in front of his face. It's a stripped environment, a fitting one given that later in the evening Ferreira will hit the stage with just a guitar and a soundboard and take the crowd on a full spectrum journey of love, heartbreak, and everything in between. But right now, he's smiling, seemingly in his element: in a back room, in a big city, while on the road.
"I love touring. I love going to different countries, meeting different people. It's such an inspiration for me," the artist tells PS.
As a completely independent artist, Ferreira understands that he's incredibly fortunate to be able to live off his music. But that often comes with long stretches far away from home, so it's good that he loves to tour. This current tour has seen him on the go since last year. He's performed all over Spain and has upcoming stops in Mexico. His two-night stint in New York caps the US section that had him in Miami and Puerto Rico. However, having recently become a father, Ferreira admits that he doesn't have much time to hang out in these places like he once did.
"I want to be with my daughter. I feel like this is a very important time in her life, her first year . . . the responsibility I have as a father is much greater than that of my artistic life," he says.
This is especially true since, in his artistic life, Ferreira is pretty well-established. Having made waves since 2010 with a singer-songwriter style that incorporates a healthy dose of experimentation and genre-bending, he knows who he is as an artist. And his fans do too.
